Imagine... every person in Calgary can have a sustainable livelihood and contribute to their community.
Momentum uses a Community Economic Development (CED) approach that offers hope and opportunity to people living in poverty. An economic approach is at the core of CED, but only works if we look at the whole picture—money, self and others. We work with all Calgarians who are ready to move out of poverty, for good.
At Momentum, individuals and families living on low incomes take control of personal finances, learn to use computers, secure meaningful employment, borrow and repay loans for business, and even purchase homes. Our participants achieve these successes through award-winning programs designed to build personal, financial and social assets.
Momentum has learned over the years that by working with and through others, broad-based change can occur. For example:
- Through Vibrant Communities Calgary, Momentum partners with businesses, government and the non-profit sector to systemically address issues of poverty in Calgary.
- As the host of Thrive: Calgary's Community Economic Development Network, Momentum brings together hundreds of citizens to act for inclusive, local economic opportunities.
- Momentum facilitators deliver money management classes at over 50 organizations in the city. We also train women’s organizations across Western Canada to teach our financial literacy curriculum.
Through programs and community leadership, Momentum partners with the underemployed to develop their productive futures.
