Why We Exist

Momentum exists because, despite all of Calgary’s prosperity, there are still people living in poverty in our city, many of whom work full-time hours. These Calgarians do not need a band-aid approach to crisis management; they need the tools to prevent such crises from happening. Momentum serves people who are ready to make a change and make it last.

To better understand why Momentum’s programming and leadership is critical to our community fabric, we have to look more closely at the costs of poverty, and the cost savings of paying all Albertans a living wage.

What are the costs of poverty?

Every individual has a contribution to make to society. The alarming costs of poverty should concern us all.

What is Living Wage?

Learn how Alberta’s insufficient minimum wage contributes to crime and homelessness and how living wages benefit employers, employees, and the community at large.
