Cool Biz
Program Outline
The Cool Biz program is offered free of charge for youth (14-18 years old) to develop knowledge on starting up their own businesses. Youth will learn through interactive programming & business planning. Put theory into action through hands on learning! The outcome of the program is to create awareness of self-employment as a career choice and build the foundation on which youth can potentially start their own business.
Available Cool Biz workshops:
- Cool Biz (8 two-hour workshop)
- One Day Ventures (1 Day program)
- Summer Biz (5 Day program)
- Cool Biz to Go (2-4 hour workshop) - booked via educators
In partnership with Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta, Momentum offers Company Program (16 - weeks) to low-income youth at no charge. This program affords students the opportunity to run a business under the guidance of business volunteers.
How It Works
Develop the skills necessary to create and run your own business!
Cool Biz:
Students learn through interactive programming and business planning. The format is designed to engage the imagination and energy of 14-18 year old youth. Commitment: 8 two hour workshops.
One Day Ventures:
An ideal follow up to Cool Biz, this program turns theory into action, through practical application. Students will set up a business and participate in marketing. Commitment: 1 day program.
Summer Biz:
Designed for youth who would like to run their own business but are not sure how to get started. Bring your own ideas! Commitment: 5 day program
Cool Biz to Go:
Lead students through a mini version of Cool Biz in a fun, informal atmosphere. Encourage youth to view their dreams as self-employment possibilities. Commitment: 2-4 hour workshops.
Benefits to You

- Free access to facilitators, coaches and other resources
Outcomes of participating in the program:
- Realize the possibility of starting your own business
- Develop a business support network (Access resources, coaches and mentors)
Who Can Apply?
Programs are offered in two age categories. If you are between 12 to 15 or 14 to 18, you are eligible to participate in these free programs.
Program Dates
- Cool Biz - week long programs running in July and August
- Summer Biz - 5 days (1st week of July)
- JA Company Program - 16 weeks (October - February)
- Cool Biz To Go - Ongoing (By request)
