Exploring Entrepreneurship
Program Outline
The Exploring Entrepreneurship programs are designed to give participants an overview of self-employment as an option to employment or to supplement their current income. The outcomes of the course(s) are a better understanding of what it takes to be self-employed and how to get started.
Exploring Entrepreneurship I - Provides an overview of the benefits and challenges of owning and operating a small business. Topics include common myths about entrepreneurs, reasons to start a business, and some ways to generate good business ideas.
***Please Note: Exploring Entrepreneurship I is a prerequisite for entry into the following programs:
- ABCs of Small Business
- Self Employment Program
- Women's Venture Program
How It Works
Exploring Entrepreneurship I is a 2.5-hour workshop offered at various times throughout the year.

Who Can Apply?
Any person in Calgary who is interested in starting their own business, has a low income and any one of the following circumstances apply:
- has not finished school
- works at a "dead-end" job
- has come from another country
- has any condition that limits employment opportunities.
A good understanding of the English language is helpful to gain the full benefit of our programs.
