Key Focus Areas

Momentum operates Community Economic Development (CED) programs in four key areas: business development, financial literacy, skills training, and technology access.

Business Development

Low-income Calgarians start and operate their own small businesses. Support includes small business training, peer support and networking, one-on-one business coaching through volunteers, and a youth entrepreneurship program.

Entrepreneurs can access financing through a micro business loan fund. Business loans are also available to entrepreneurs with disabilities.

Financial Literacy

Participants in low-income situations are managing their money and saving. A savings incentive program provides an opportunity for adults and youth to save for their education, a home, to start a business, buy tools for work, or to send their kids to college.

People who are working, yet at risk of being homeless, are finding a place to call home through our security deposit loans. Women surviving domestic violence are taking control of their finances as they gain money management skills.

Skills Training

Immigrant and Aboriginal persons prepare to become apprentices in various trades such as plumbing, welding, carpentry, and pipefitting so that they can obtain rewarding employment. Loans for tools are also available so that participants can buy the necessary tools for a trade.

Skilled immigrants who are pursuing their Canadian accreditations can access a loan to upgrade their education.

Technology Access

Individuals who cannot afford a computer in their home can access our computer lab. People learn essential computer skills and gain access to job opportunities found only on the Internet.
