Ibrahim's Story
Ibrahim is Sudanese and has been living in Canada for seven years. Before being introduced to Momentum (Ibrahim’s wife saw a Momentum ad on TV and told him about it) Ibrahim had been stuck in what most of us would describe as a “dead-end job.” It’s not that the job was all that bad. It was just that Ibrahim had been doing it for several years, had been promoted as high as it was possible to be promoted, and was still not earning the kind of money he felt that he should be earning. Ibrahim let his wife know that he wanted to look for another job, and that he was fairly certain that he wanted his next job to be a specialized trade. If he had to undergo training, he was ready to do it.
It happened to be around this time that Ibrahim’s wife saw the Momentum ad on TV. Momentum would play a significant role in Ibrahim’s quest to improve his life, to find a better, higher paying job, and to provide more security for his family. Ibrahim contacted Momentum and after an interview process they let him know that he qualified for their Trades program. The Trades program — Ibrahim chose welding — was full-time, however, and five months in duration, so Ibrahim had a decision to make: Was he really ready to leave his old job? Yes, he was. Especially so when Momentum helped him to arrange to receive EI benefits, which would help support his family while he undertook his welding program.
The five months flew by, and when Ibrahim had finished his course, it felt like Momentum was only getting started. “Even after my course, Momentum still gave me so much help,” says Ibrahim. “They helped me with my resume, they helped me to contact potential employers, they continued to work with me until I had found a job.” As is often the case with Momentum-trained tradespeople, it wasn’t a long wait. Within weeks, Ibrahim had a fulltime job with a reputable company and was making a lot more money than he had been making at his old job.
Perhaps it was good to get all of those big decisions out of the way — now Ibrahim and his wife can relax a bit and enjoy their new son. “I am so grateful to Momentum,” says Ibrahim today. “They did so much for me and my family.”
