Karen's Story
Karen is a true Momentum success story. A stay-at-home mom of five who got tired of paying rent. “In paying rent,” says Karen, “we were using our money to pay someone else’s mortgage. We were never getting ahead. My husband has a good job, but there are seven of us. Paying bills became a challenge every month.”
Karen learned about Momentum from a pamphlet, and the Owen Hart Home Owners Program was enough of an incentive for her to find out more. “The first thing I felt when I arrived at Momentum was respect,” says Karen. “The staff there were so helpful in working with me to select the program that would be the best fit for my family and for me. In a very short time, I realized that there was this whole team behind me that really wanted me to succeed! That felt really wonderful.”
First, Karen enrolled in Fair Gains, an incentive-driven money management program where each dollar participants save is matched three dollars to one by Momentum. “Fair Gains helped me to face the truth about my financial situation, and helped me to set attainable goals, step by step,” says Karen. With a new found confidence, Karen then enrolled in the Owen Hart Home Owners Program, where the goal is to save up a down payment toward the purchase of a home. “The Owen Hart program not only helped me to save, it also instilled in me a sense of empowerment. It really prepared me to be a homeowner. Right down to the handymen who would come in to speak to our class and teach us how to solve common problems that we might encounter while owning and maintaining a house. I tell you, Momentum thought of every possible detail!”
Today, Karen is a proud homeowner, and she also operates a daycare in her home that provides for her family a second income. “When I first came to Momentum, I was so focused on the negative. But the wonderful people there helped me to change that point of view. They helped me to see all of the possibilities that could be. And now, thanks to Momentum, life is filled with more possibilities than ever before.”
