Moustapha's Story
A native of Chad, Moustapha has been living in Canada for ten years. He left his homeland partly due to the political turmoil there; but also, he wanted to see the world, and to seek new experiences. His travels brought him to Canada, where he decided to settle. Moustapha spent many years working in a factory, but was not happy with his job; and while he worked hard, he didn’t feel he was making much money, and had been finding it hard to get ahead.
As it happened, an ESL classmate of Moustapha’s had been through the Momentum Trades program, had found lots of work as a result, and highly recommended Momentum to Moustapha. Eager for a career change, and looking for something better, Moustapha contacted Momentum and discovered that he qualified for their Trades program. He chose the pipefitting course, which was an intensive, five-month program that, when completed, made Moustapha a highly employable and much sought after pre-apprentice tradesperson.
To continue improving his communications skills, Moustapha also took one of Momentum’s English courses, which he says helped his language skills immensely. "Momentum didn’t just offer me training in a trade," says Mustapha. "After the course was over, they helped me to find a job; they helped set up interviews for me; they taught me interview skills; they helped me improve my English. Their support went far beyond just job training, and that’s what sets them apart. That’s what makes them so special—and so helpful to so many people."
