Self Employment Program
Are you unemployed? Do you have a business idea? You could qualify for Momentum’s Self Employment Program. You will learn everything you need to know to start your own successful business in Calgary.
You can launch your business in 10 weeks!
Through 10 weeks of full-time classes and individual coaching, you will complete a detailed business plan and launch your business.
During the 16 weeks following your business launch, you will receive coaching and support as you work full-time on your business
An additional 3 months of business coaching is also available after the program ends.
Once you have completed your business plan, you can apply for a Momentum Micro Loan to help finance your business startup costs.
Learn the skills
- Write a marketing plan;
- Develop selling skills;
- Write a business plan;
- Understand licensing, permits and registration;
- Understand insurance, taxation and legal issues;
- Plan for financing; and
- Start, manage and operate your business.
How much does it cost?
This program is free.
Both Employment Insurance recipients are non-Employment Insurance learners are welcome, and may also qualify for Alberta Learner Benefits to help with living costs through the program.
Do I qualify?
This program is for people who:
- Are unemployed or working less than 20 hours a week,
- Have a realistic business idea, and
- Face a barrier to traditional employment
How do I apply?
Sessions start in spring (usually March) and fall (usually late September or early October).
To apply for this program, you must first attend Momentum’s free Exploring Entrepreneurship orientation session, a 3 hour introductory workshop.
Class size is limited to 15 people and the programs fill up fast! Call 403.204.2671 to sign up for Exploring Entrepreneurship today. Once you have attended the workshop, you can fill out an application form for the Self Employment Program. If you qualify, you will be invited in for an interview.
