Skills Training
The Skills Training Department assists individuals who are employment disadvantaged (primarily new Canadians and some Aboriginal people) to enter satisfying and well paying careers in the Canadian workplace.
Why We Exist
Many newcomers to Canada, as well as segments of the Aboriginal population, live in poverty because they experience barriers that prevent them from accessing good quality jobs. While they have capability to work in better jobs they lack the opportunities or training to access them. In light of increasing labour shortages in Canada, people are needed to fill many vital jobs that are in high demand. Our programs are designed to help individuals overcome these barriers so they can work to their full capacity and create long-term sustainable lives for themselves and their families.
Department Mission
Enable the unemployed and underemployed to gain Canadian accreditation or develop necessary work, language, and employability skills that enhance their opportunities for employment, lifelong learning and self-reliance while increasing their social participation and incomes.
