Trades Training Program

Program Outline

This full time, pre-apprenticeship training program enables participants to enter careers in the areas of construction and manufacturing trades.

How It Works

Selected participants will attend a 21 week pre-apprenticeship training program that includes:

  • Academic (English, Math & Science) upgrading
  • Employability skills training
  • Technical training at SAIT
  • Work experience
  • Job placement in the trade

Who Can Apply?

You can apply if you are:

  • An unemployed immigrant or aboriginal person or
  • An underemployed immigrant or aboriginal person

and:

  • A resident of Alberta (for at least 3 months)
  • Living in Calgary

What do Plumbers, Pipefitters and Carpenters do?

To learn what pipefitters, plumbers, carpenters or heavy equipment do and how much they earn, check out the Alberta Apprenticeship Board website: www.tradesecrets.org. Then choose Trades and Occupations and look for pipefitting, plumbing, carpentry or heavy equipment technicians.

Program Start Dates

Carpentry - July 14, 2008
Plumbing - October 6, 2008
Pipefitting - January 9, 2009
