Trades Training Program
Program Outline
This full time, pre-apprenticeship training program enables participants to enter careers in the areas of construction and manufacturing trades.
How It Works
Selected participants will attend a 21 week pre-apprenticeship training program that includes:
- Academic (English, Math & Science) upgrading
- Employability skills training
- Technical training at SAIT
- Work experience
- Job placement in the trade

Who Can Apply?
You can apply if you are:
- An unemployed immigrant or aboriginal person or
- An underemployed immigrant or aboriginal person
and:
- A resident of Alberta (for at least 3 months)
- Living in Calgary
Preference is given to those receiving Employment Insurance (EI), Income Support, or have received EI within the past three years
Immigrants must have a Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Level 4/5
What do Plumbers, Pipefitters and Carpenters do?
To learn what pipefitters, plumbers, carpenters or heavy equipment do and how much they earn, check out the Alberta Apprenticeship Board website: www.tradesecrets.org. Then choose Trades and Occupations and look for pipefitting, plumbing, carpentry or heavy equipment technicians.
Program Start Dates
Carpentry - July 14, 2008
Plumbing - October 6, 2008
Pipefitting - January 9, 2009
