User Support - Computer Lab

Purpose of Volunteer Role:

Provide:

  • A welcoming and supportive environment in the technology access centre for all program participants and public computer users
  • Administrative support to the Technology Access facilitator as requested
  • Direct user support in common office applications and internet usage to all program participants and public computer users

Description of Duties:

Welcome and introduce new users to the rules of using the computer lab.

  • Ensure the expectation statement is signed and users are oriented to the public access program or technology access program
  • Receive enquiries and provide information about the Computer Literacy program
  • General Client/Public Support
  • Monitor public/client access computers for appropriateness (according to the appropriate use policy) and need for assistance
  • Provide assistance to public/client users in the use of common MS Office applications and the internet as necessary
  • Data entry as requested
  • Brings up issues with facilitator assisting with training sessions

Skills/Qualifications Required:

  • Personable, and friendly in dealing with the public
  • Effective communication skills and able to work with others collaboratively
  • Well developed knowledge of common office software (MS Office) and the internet (ISP's, browsers, e-mail, etc.)
  • Dependable, reliable, discrete
  • Takes initiative in responding to tasks needing completion
  • Able to work independently
  • Strong, fluent English skills
